About this Performance

On Saturday, September 17, 2022 – 7:30 PM and Sunday, September 18, 2022 – 3:00 PM, the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra (GJSO) will perform Return to Life, the first Classic Series concert of the 22/23 GJSO season, under the musical direction of maestro, Charles Latshaw, at the Avalon Theatre in Grand Junction, Colorado! The program for this concert consists of John Estacio’s Frenergy, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto #1 featuring special guest Zhengyi Huang, of the GJSO 2022 Young Artists Competition, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 in A Major.

The Grand Junction Symphony prides itself on selecting the finest artists to perform concerti with the orchestra through its Young Artist Competition each year. The instrument chosen for the competition rotates each year between piano, solo instrument, and voice. Pianist, Zhengyi Huang, was the 2022 Young Artists Competition winner, and will perform as GJSO special guest during Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto #1.

Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven after a much-needed restorative spa holiday in the Bohemian spa town of Teplitz, Czech Republic in 1811, Symphony No. 7 sounds like what Beethoven would later call a ‘return to life’. Adding context to the depths of his talent, Beethoven’s life at this time was marked by a worsening hearing loss. This new reality ultimately made “conversation notebooks” necessary from 1819 on, with the help of which Beethoven communicated in writing.

Ticket prices for Return to Life range from $15-$45 and can be purchased online at GJSO.org, by phone at 970-243-6787, or in person at 414 Main Street, Grand Junction, CO 81501. Tickets for students of all ages are available to purchase for only $5.

On Saturday, September 17, 2002 – 5:15PM the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra (GJSO), conductor and music director Charles Latshaw will host the Conductor’s Club at Carlson Vineyards Downtown Tasting Room. Latshaw will provide a brief informational talk about the music to be played during the weekend’s concerts. This pre-concert party is for newcomers and seasoned classical lovers alike! With light refreshments and an opportunity to socialize with members from around the Western Colorado community, this exciting event is one for all to enjoy. Individual Conductor’s Club tickets are available for $35, with club tickets for the full season – 5 evenings total – available for only $150.
