On Saturday, May 2nd, the Grand Junction Symphony’s 2nd Annual Beat Beethoven 5K will once again be pitting runners against Ludwig Van Beethoven and his famous 5th Symphony.
This year’s race begins at 11am and will start and end in front of Edgewater Brewery (905 Struthers Ave) and will follow along the Riverfront Trail with speakers dotting the race course blasting Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and Fruitvale Elementary gym teacher Paul Hughes reprising his role as Beethoven complete with wig, tuxedo and baton. The goal is to finish the 3.2 mile course before the end of the 5th Symphony which is approximately 30 minutes long. If you can “beat Beethoven”, you win the coveted “I beat Beethoven” sticker and the bragging rights.
Pre-registration is $20 per person or $25 the day of the race. To register for the race, go online to www.gjso.org/event/beatbeethoven5k.
Each runner will receive an awesome swag bag with a Beat Beethoven 5K t-shirt, a color-changing water bottle, a ticket for a free beer from Edgewater Brewery (for after the race!) and other great coupons and offers from Downtown Grand Junction businesses.
After the race, there will be a party on the lawn at Edgewater Brewery with a special lunch menu and each racer (over the age of 21) will receive one free beer as a part of their registration. There will also be awards handed out to top overall finishers and winners in each age category.
This is a great race for novice runners, families and even those looking to walk the course and enjoy some time along the Colorado River being serenaded by Beethoven.
This year’s sponsors of the Beat Beethoven 5K are Oxy USA Inc. and Grand Junction Chrysler Jeep Dodge with additional support from Grand Events and Party Rentals and Impact Promotional Products.
All proceeds support the mission of the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra to enrich and engage our community through symphonic music.
