A 24-year tradition continues Saturday, August 27th with the new and improved Grand Junction Symphony’s An Evening Under The Stars concert sponsored by Enstrom Candies, Monument Health and Xcel Energy. This year’s concert will be held in Sherwood Park and begins with the Grand Junction Symphony Guild’s Brat(wurst)s in the Park fundraiser and the Grande River Vineyards wine garden at 5:00pm and music from the Grand Junction Centennial Band and the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra (GJSO) beginning at 6:30pm.
An Evening Under The Stars will be the first performance under the direction of new Music Director Charles Latshaw. Latshaw was named Music Director of the GJSO in April 2016 after a 2-year nationwide search to replace outgoing Music Director Kirk Gustafson, who retired after 28 years of leading the orchestra.
“We are excited to have our new Music Director Charles Latshaw start of his tenure with this concert and to welcome Monument Health and Xcel Energy as partners with Enstrom Candies to be co-sponsors!” said Marketing Director Jeremy Herigstad. “We are also looking forward to holding this year’s concert in a new venue.” “Sherwood Park is one of the largest parks in Grand Junction and we think it is going to be a wonderful location for an enjoyable evening of food, drinks and music.”
Sherwood Park is located just north of North Ave between 1st and 5th Streets with street parking located all around the park, a large parking lot at Grand Junction High School just 1/2 block east of the park and two smaller parking lots at the First Congregational Church on the corner of 5th Street and Kennedy Ave. and First Christian Church located off 1st Street and Kennedy Ave. The stage, food tents and wine garden will be located in the northernmost part of the park with ample grass seating all around.
The Grand Junction Symphony Guild continues their longest ongoing fundraiser with Brats in the Park beginning at 5:30pm. Their famous brats and sauerkraut will be available for purchase as well as hot dogs, chips, soft drinks and popcorn.
Grande River Vineyards and their owners, Steve & Naomi Smith, have long been supporters of the GJSO and this year’s An Evening Under The Stars concert will feature, for the first time ever, a wine and hard cider garden. Grande River Vineyards staff will be on hand pouring their award-winning wines as well as selling Talbott’s Cider Co.’s new hard cider varities. Enstrom Candies will also have their ice cream trailer on hand to serve up their delicious frozen treats with a portion of their sales from that night supporting the GJSO.
The Grand Junction Centennial Band kicks off the evening’s music, as it has for the past 20+ years, at 6:30pm with The Star Spangled Banner and other great Americana tunes and marches. The Centennial Band is under the direction of Gary Ambrosier and Debbie Wilson.
The GJSO concludes the evening with other great patriotic tunes and a sampling of music to come during their upcoming 2016-17 concert season.
Season ticket holders of the GJSO will also have an opportunity to pick up their tickets at the concert and anyone interested in purchasing or renewing a season ticket package or buying single tickets to any concert will be able to do so that night. Season tickets are a great way to enjoy the GJSO all year long and first-time subscribers receive 50% off single ticket prices.
A special thanks to Enstrom Candies for their continued sponsorship of An Evening Under The Stars, to Xcel Energy for expanding their support of the GJSO and to our newest partner, Monument Health.
