Grand Junction Symphony Foundation – September 2021 Update

The Grand Junction Symphony Foundation hosted an evening event of fun, food and entertainment on September 9th at Maison la Belle Vie Winery in Palisade. The event was held for the purpose of reconnecting with supporters and friends of the Grand Junction Symphony and to raise enough money to cover the operating expenses of the Foundation for another twelve months.

The theme of the event was “An Evening in Provence” and featured a great meal, wine selections from the Winery, live entertainment provided by Javier De La Santos, Jane Kunzel, Kelly Latshaw and Charles Latshaw (on the keyboards) and a Silent Auction. The event was held outdoors in a lush and comfortable garden area. The menu was French-themed and prepared by the proprietors of the Winery and their employees. Guests were served by Foundation board members and the management staff of the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra.

The guests and volunteers (board members and symphony management) seem to have a great time. Some of the guests have been long time supporters of the Grand Junction Symphony and the Grand Junction Symphony Foundation- many of the guests said they are new to the area or new to events sponsored by the Foundation.

As the result of strong event ticket sales and the proceeds generated from the Silent Auction items, we raised enough money during the evening to cover the modest expenses incurred by the Foundation over the course of a year. The Foundation has been holding annual dinner parties for a number of years for the purpose of having fun while covering our annual expenses.

Since income has been accrued to cover our operational expenses for 2021 and part of 2022, every dollar donated to the Grand Junction Symphony Foundation can go toward building our endowment fund, which at the time of this writing exceeds $1,900,000. Each year the GJSF gives money to the Grand Junction Symphony to help cover its operational expenses. Last year was an extraordinary year- the Foundation gave the Symphony in excess of $100,000 dollars. In a typical year the gift would be in the $40-50,000 range. As the Foundation balance grows, so will the annual gift to the Symphony.

We thank everyone who bought tickets, Silent Auction items and joined in the fun- it was great to see you all there! We also would like to thank the many volunteers, talented musicians, donors of Silent Auction items and the proprietors of Maison la Belle Vie Winery for hosting the spectacular “Evening in Provence”.
